The Sweater

Something not good, and something I certainly should have known by now. We all know that I knit tight, but did you know that I purl loose? The resulting fabric is.......how to discribe it? You know the "V" that makes up the stitch? Well, imagine one side of the V as very tight, and the other as very loose. It creates vertical lines, and it doesn't look like little v's at all. And I want my knitting look like little v's all lined up together. So what is the solution? Do I try to knit looser or purl tighter?

A question to ponder while I go have Taco night!!!

Happy knitting!!

Sock and Needle

Sock and Needle

Ahhh, our many mistakes, and whatnot. This is the sock that went wrong. On many levels. Well. Not really. Really, it just seemed to be the yarn choice in combination with the pattern. This yarn doesn't stretch. And neither does the pattern. What results? A sock the won't stretch at all. Except to stretch OUT. As in too much. And the yarn is 100% cotton. No bounce back. This has been a hard lesson for me. And it also happens to be a lesson that I got to learn twice. The sweater I made was also cotton, and therefore not bounce back-y. Not so good.

In other news, I have been on the internet all morning. An obvious avoidence to picking up the stitches on the sock I'm supposed to be working on. I don't dread it, I don't dislike doing it, I'm simply avoiding it. And now that I think about it-I don't know why. I watched an episode of Ice Truckers this morning while working a little on the sweater. And avoiding the sock.

Last night I finished another Christmas present. YAY!! And today I have a bridal shower to go to. I had been thinking I'd take the Trekking sock. (Sadly still not finished) But now I'm thinking I'll take the sweater. It's still small enough to be portable, and I really would like to get working on it. Maybe I'll take both.

Oh, and the needle in the picture is the one I *finally* fixed. The end had popped off on the way back from Maryland Sheep & Wool, and I put a yellow elastic hair thing on the end. I finally went to the store and got some glue and fixed it. Isn't it pretty?

Today-until the shower-I will be sock knitting, and listening to podcasts. Which has quickly become an addiction to me. Those boring, slow parts of knitting? I look forward to them now. It's so exciting to find something like this. And with my complete anti-TV thing this summer, it works out quite well.

I guess that's it for now. I'm gonna try to be a better blogger, and post more often. But gosh-that just takes away knitting time, eh?

Happy Knitting!!!

Weekend of Discovery

Sadly-no pictures. My recent FOs are Christmas presents, and that's that.

But it has been an interesting weekend in my little world.

The discoveries:

1. On Friday night, I finished a sock, and discovered that the round toe will be the only toe decrease I use from now on. (Except on my Trekking sock-I already have one done, so......) It looks sooooo good. So much better then the crocodile effect I was getting before. (While we're speaking of Friday-got another Christmas present done!! Squeee!!!)

2. Yesterday, from 9am until 1am this morning I read the new Harry Potter book. The whole thing. So I've discovered how the story ends. (No hints-read it yourself!)

3. And today....today was a great day. I discovered podcasts. Ohh....podcasts. Where-for FREE!-I can download people talking about everything knitting. I load it onto my MP3 player, and listen to it while I knit the boring parts. You know how-like at SnB or knit nights, just sitting and even just listening to people talk about this stitch or that pattern book, or a story about a project gone bad (or good) just gets you in that mood. That "Yes-I am a knitter, and I love it so much that just to hear people speak on the subject has my hands twitching for them needles." Now-I have previously thought I was becoming an audio book person-which I think I still am, but to sit and listen to these podcasts, it just gets my hands flying! I can't say too much-but there is a certain thing that has gone faster for me this afternoon then it has ever gone. Seriously. Before I knew it-I was past the sucky-boring part, and onto the boring part. And I was a little shocked to discover the quickness of it. I have the podcasts to thank for that!!

Anywho-that's been my weekend. And tomorrow brings another day of waiting........back to work. Sigh.

But-it could also be a knit night, and that would be cool!

Happy knitting!

Sunday!

Ahhh.....Sunday. Slept in. Went to lunch with my sister. Signed up for Secret Pal 11. It's been a good day. Not like yesterday. Went to Harrisburg to see the new Harry Potter film in 3D at the IMAX theater. Oh-it was an awesome movie, and Mom treated for Red Lobster. But an entire day spent with my family? My patience pants were wrapped around my neck!

The funniest part had to have been my 32 year old sister getting yelled at like she was 10 because she kept complaing about driving around for a parking spot. My parents do not do pay parking. They will walk 20 blocks before they will pay to park. It's not a money issue. It's the fact that you have to pay at all. To park. Um. Yeah. I don't go out with them very often. Yesterday reminded me why. And I was threatened to be kicked out of the car with my sister, as she was complaining. Not quite sure how *I* got involved. Well-it could have been the fact that I offered to go halves with my sister for the parking garage fee......but anyway.

On the stressful drive to Harrisburg (bad driver-very scary) I was knitting my Trekking sock and got lots done! Next, I think I'll do a Jaywalker sock. A friend at SnB did them, and said the pattern was fun. So I'm super excited about that!

And of course SP11. Super, super excited about that!!!!!

I have been given Christmas present requests, so I've begun knitting those up. If I didn't love knitting so very much, I might be a little peeved about the requests. But as I live to knit, this is not a problem. I'm happy to have "next project" things. It's good to have goals, and Christmas is a short 5 and a half months away.

I've got so much coming up with Knit-Ins, and stuff, I just can't wait!!!
