Whew!

What a week! Pictures of one Jaywalker in STR tomorrow.

Quick update-the ball came back into my court waaaaayyyy faster then I thought! It was a very stressful week, and now it's over, and I am playing the waiting game, and once again I have done everything in my power to secure the future.....blah blah blah.

Anywho! I took a super long weekend, and am off of work for four whole days!!! Wooo Hoooo!! More on what I did today(Friday) when I post tomorrow!

P.S. Went to a new yarn shop!!!! More tomorrow!

It is Done!

I have done everything in my power to secure my future. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. It is no longer in my hands!!! Well, for now. Until the ball falls into my court again, which it will. In time. But for now-now I am secure in the knowledge that I have done what I can, and the chips will fall where they fall.

I have been super productive today! Aside from the working-the-entire-day thing, I have cleaned out my car, I have shaved my legs, my resume is updated, and uploaded, I have grocery shopped, I have one bill to pay, which I will do when I get my butt of my computer, I have just caught myself up to myself. (And I got up early enough to exercise this morn. YAY!) Life is what you make of it, and I say it's good (for now)!

I have not done a stitch of knitting, but once that pesky bill is paid, and I've switched knitting bags, I think I'll whip out the dishcloth for the KAL and do a few rows.

Best get crackin'!!

What I should be doing....

Trekking Socks

There are a lot of things I *should* be doing. There is the reume that needs updated, and uploaded. The excerise I woke up too late to do this morning. The laundry that needs put away. The paperwork that should be put into some kind of order so I won't lose my resume disk in it's depths again. The grocery shopping that will get me through the rest of the week. Movies that should be watched so they can be sent back. The taped TV shows that need to be caught up on before the tape is lost in the jumble.

There is much to be done.

But none of it will get done on this day. This rainy, cool, fall-like day. No. Today I will be knitting and podcast listening. Because it's what I want to do. My knitting karma has gone to hell this whole week, and I will not neglect it for another day. And knitting brings us to a whole other list of 'to do'. 24 dishcloths, 2 pairs of socks, mittens, a cabled headband, a fun hat for my brother, and maybe even something for me. (Just while I'm at it, and all.)

I am blogging now, because in 5 minutes, my TV will be turned off, and life will be tuned out, even if it's only for a few hours. And I will be deep in my knitting world, with my only care being why my knitting karma has turned on me. And believe me-that's the least of my worries.

Happy Knitting, and keep walking past the open windows.

Yeah.

I wish I could think of a better subject line, but I just can't.

SP11 starts today!!! Woooo Hoooo!!! So excited! I'm sending out my first package tomorrow!! Woo Hoo!! I just love stuff like this!!

OTN: dishcloth that really needs to be worked on, the top down sweater(still on the hood), and Jaywalkers for my Mom.

Had to come home from work today and work on the thing. (eyeroll)

And now the gloom and doom report: Dread. That is what I feel this evening. I know for 100% that I will get news tomorrow, and it fills me with dread. Don't get me wrong-I would much rather know then not know, but really, once you know for sure, hope may be lost forever. I'm being a little dramatic here, and I'm sorry about that. It's been a hectic, looonng week that has gone by exceedingly fast.

And now I must get my package together to mail out!!!

The Best Laid Plans......

Me-At The Mannings
Originally uploaded by writing_alyssa
Yep-all me. And look! I'm knitting! This is indeed me. I am at the Mannings for the Knit-In on Saturday. (This past) We had a great time! I went with some friends from SnB, and we just sat outside all day long knitting. The weather was perfect, there were a lot of people there, it was just awesome! And yes, I may have shopped a *little*. I only bought a few things, as I never buy yarn unless I have a project/pattern for it. I'm just not all about the yarn stash!

In other news, I spent Sunday relaxing and fighting with the Jaywalker sock. Honestly-how in the world did I end up two stitches short on one of my needles?? Then, I tried to fix it, and that's where the problems really began. I dropped stitches, I cursed at the stupid pattern, I poked myself with the needles, I had to go into my scary basement to look for a small enough crochet hook to pick the frickin' stitches back up, I dropped the stitches even farther down so I was in the pattern row...blah blah blah. My mother had better love these socks. Honestly. Bitches.

So that was my Sunday, which leads me to Monday. Yeah. Work is a living nightmare, but let's not go into that. I did meet Wen, Cindy, and TJ at B&N for a knit night. YAY! Good times.

Now today. Another horrible day at work. (The wait is getting to everyone, and we're all stressin') So I plan to come home, do some bills, shave my legs (it's been a while. Shhh! It is NOT gross!), have a sit down with my new books, and basically spend the rest of the night just knittin' away, listening to my podcasts. But noooooo. I get home, and my Mom is working on this-this-thing. It's to hang on the wall behind the bride and groom at the reception(my cousin's getting married Saturday. Don't get me started on this one.) So anyway, I begin to help, and suddenly it's 8:45PM, I've done nothing I had planned to do, and my legs are going to have to go another day unshaved. But at least I'm blogging. I was planning on posting a picture of my Trekking socks, but then I remembered that I wore them to work yesterday, and they are in the wash. *Sigh* It's been a day. And tomorrow might just be another.

But anywho. So I was planning all these things I wanted to post about, and I think I've covered a bunch of them, but I really need to go get some crap done before it's time for bed! And I really would like to knit tonight, damn it!

Happy Knitting!

Sp11 Questionaire

Here it goes:

Here are is the questionnaire for SP11.

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?-- I like wool and wool blends. I don't have any favorites-I like to try new things. Not big on novelty yarns or 100% cotton. And I don't mind acrylic in a blend. I'll add more to this one later!

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?---- Uhhh...a mug. And the packaging they came it.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?----- I have been knitting for about a year and a half. I taught myself from the Stitch & Bitch book. I would say I fall somewhere between beginner and intermediate for my skill level. I'm not afraid to try things, but I still feel like there are some things beyond my grasp.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list? No

5. What's your favorite scent? ----I'm not big on scents. Non-fruity type stuff, I guess? I do not like vanilla (hate it, actually). Earthy-stuff. Ocean breeze, Storm, etc.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?---- Sadly, no sweet tooth. My favorite candies are Spree, Nerds, Jawbreakers, Gobstoppers, etc. I like candy like that. I don't hate chocolate, but it's not a favorite.

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?----- I'm just a hardcore knitter. I don't spin. Anything other then knitting just takes me away from knitting!

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD) ------Music....I like pretty much everything with the exception of rap, heavy metal, elevator music. I can do MP3s.

9. What's your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can't stand?--- I love blues, greens, and purples. I hate red, or any variation of red.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets? ----No kids, no hubby. Have a couple dogs and a couple cats. (I live with my parents for fear of no one knowing I've died or gone missing until I don't show up for work one day..... :) )

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?---- I'm sorry-but I don't wear any of these. I would probably wear a shaw or poncho.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?---- Love me some socks, and sweaters (top-down only!)

13. What are you knitting right now? ---OTN: SnB KAL dishcloth, top-down hooded cardigan, Jaywalker socks!

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?--- Yes!

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?---- No prefrence to straight or circular. (I knit my socks on DPN-love them!) I like them both! I only knit with aluminum/metal needles because I am a tight knitter, and I need the smooth-ness to slide my stitches. Also-I think I'd break wooden needles. And I just like them best!

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift? ----No, but I'm gettin' pretty good at the center pull ball!

17. How old is your oldest UFO? ----July 1st-this year. (I like to get things off the needles-although I am not a "product knitter", I am more of a "process knitter")

18. What is your favorite holiday? Ah-Christmas. Love, love, love it! Come the first wave of cold weather, I'm itchin' to get that Christmas music going! And the lights, and decorations, ah! Love it!

19. Is there anything that you collect? No. But the 'stuff' I like is things with Gnomes, or turtles, or moose. There is a character-Tyrone-on the kids show 'The Backyardigans' that I think is really cute. He's a moose. (Kids shows are great to knit to. So are knitting podcasts-love them!)

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?---- Hmmm..... this is a hard one. If there is something I really want, I ususally buy it for myself. Oh! The Elizabeth Zimmerman books. I have the almanac, but the books I'd like to get. And I' love some of those beaded stitchmarkers. And I'm sort-of looking for patterns for fingerless gloves, and a cabled shaw..... I don't have any magazine subscriptions, but I love to look at magazines!!

21. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn?---- Cables-this fall! No idea how to do them! I tend to learn things as needed. First comes the pattern, then the yarn, then I figure out the how-to of it all.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements? Yes, yes, yes. I wear a size 8. My feet are narrow. And my ankles are skinny. I'll measure the curcumfrence of my foot: Ok-8 1/2 inches around.

23. When is your birthday?---- November 1st, 1978

24. Are you on Ravelry? If so, what's your ID?---- Oh, not yet-but hopefully soon! (I'm on the list.)

Ok-I guess that's it. If you want to know anything else-all you have to do is ask! I don't have a yarn stash (except sock yarn, which we all know doesn't count.) I like kits, or enough yarn to make a 'something'. If I think of anything else-I'll post!

I am soooo excited about this!! YAY!!!

Happy knitting!

What a day.

The highs of the day: finished my Trekking socks. (YAY!!) And I got this ball done.

The very lows: I got a knot in the yarn at the very end and spent 3 hours trying to unknot it. Not some much fun. But I got it done without cutting it. And for that-I am grateful!

But that was pretty much my day. Because clearly I lead the exciting life. :)

Christmas is a comin'

So I finished another Christmas present. A big one. I was feeling all smug. "Ha!" I thought, "I am sooo ahead in this game, it's not even funny!" Then I thought about the stuff I have to do. All the planned presents. And the time it's going to take me to do them. And the things I want to do for myself. And the fact that I set a goal to have 'the sweater done' by Stitches.

Any smug look I may have had was completely wiped off my face as I quickly grabbed for another UFO that will be a Christmas present. "I have to get moving", I thought, furiously whipping out my pattern, "I only have a little over 5 months! (Or is it 4...?) No, no 5. Whew! Just about freaked myself out there!

Anywho, off to a birthday party today. Another party where my mother is supplying food. And my G-pa is paying for the rest of it. And the party is for my cousin's husband and daughter. And other people are bringing the food. I'm going to behave, and say only that.

I will be bringing the Trekking sock. Cause I need to finish it. Seriously. Like. Seriously.

In My Defense

Yep-I'm defending myself. I find that I have to in light of new evidence about the sweater. Seems I frogged an impressive amount of knitting for no reason.

Yup.

That's how stockinette is supposed to look. Should have been simple, yes? Not so much. I think I overthought the whole thing. And, again-in my defence-I have rarely knitted true stockinette. Only the sweater that poops, actually. Everything else I have done has either been in the round, or not stockinette. But that's ok, because I have learned the lesson that this was supposed to teach me.

And as soon as I figure out what it is-I'll let ya know.

Happy knitting!
